Attention Junior Angus Exhibitors: The Michigan Jr. Angus Preview Show will be held as part of the Eaton Elite Show. Classes will be offered for Angus heifers, cow/calf pairs, bulls, and steers. Exhibitors’ birthdate for the Jr. Angus Preview Show must be from January 1, 2002 through December 31, 2014. All bulls shown in the Jr. Angus Show must be bred and owned by the junior exhibitor and born after January 2022. All cow/calf pairs must be owned by the junior exhibitor. The Michigan Angus Auxiliary will again be sponsoring a showmanship contest in conjunction with the Preview Show on Saturday, May 20th. There will be three divisions (junior, intermediate, and senior). Contestants in the SENIOR DIVISION who wish to be considered for the National Junior Angus Showmanship Contest, July 2 – 8 in Grand Island, NE must meet all the requirements for the national contest to be eligible to represent Michigan in the National contest. Copies of these rules are available at angus.org/njaa/contests/ShowmanshipRules or from Kendra Diekevers prior to the contest. Participants in the national contest will show heifers provided by exhibitors at the NJAS. Special attention should be paid to the following rules for participating in the National Contest: (1) Contestants must be junior, life or regular members of the American Angus Association PRIOR to participating in their state contest. (2) Contestants must be Michigan residents and members of the Michigan Jr. Angus Association prior to the contest. (3) Contestants must be at least 16 years of age by January 1, 2023, and not have had their 21st birthday before January 1, 2023. (4) Any contestant who has participated in any of the previous National Junior Angus showmanship contests is automatically ineligible for ensuing national showmanship competition. (5) To be eligible, each contestant must presently own registered Angus cattle. (6) Junior members who are interested in competing in this contest must register on or before May 15th by contacting Kendra Diekevers at [email protected] and providing their American Angus Association member code. Those competing for this national contest on May 20 may show another exhibitor’s Angus heifer or steer in showmanship if they do not have an Angus entered in the Preview Show.
**Market animals and breeding heifers will be shown as a part of the Eaton Elite Angus classes. MI Jr. Angus Preview Show placings will be recorded separately by the MI Jr. Angus Association. **
