Novi, MI — Two Michigan Junior Angus Members took home part of the $30,000 in Scholarships awarded by the Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair September 1, 2014. Kendra Merriman from Lowell, was selected as the Beef Scholarship Winner and Overall Runner-up for the Rural Youth Scholarships. Jaycie Brown from Pinckney, was second in the Sheep Division and was recognized for having the highest score of all second place participants.
Scholarship winners are required to submit an application form, money from the award is to be used for higher education and they must exhibit at the Fifth Third Bank Michigan State Fair.
The livestock scholarships are based on 4 areas.
1. Placing on up to 3 head of breeding stock at the Fifth Third Michigan State Fair LLC (40%)
2. Placing for showmanship at the Fifth Third Michigan State Fair LLC (20%)
3. Personal application and school transcripts that includes an essay and evidence of community involvement (30%)
Letter of recommendation from a non-family member (10%)
