Michigan Junior Angus president, Kendra Merriman, is running for the National Junior Angus Association (NJAA) Board. She is the daughter of Joseph and Susan Merriman of Lowell, Michigan.
Kendra has been the president of the Michigan Junior Association (MJAA) for the past three years. Over these three year junior membership has grown, MJAA hosted a “Green Coats, Coast to Coast” event and she helped set-up the new Michigan Youth Scholarship for LEAD (Leaders Engaged in Angus Development) Conference.
Kendra has been involved with NJAA since 2002. She has participated in numerous National Junior Angus Shows, placing 3rd in the carcass class in 2009 in Perry, Georgia; serving as captain of the Quiz Bowl Team in 2008 in Des Moines, Iowa taking 3rd place; awarded 1st place in photography in both 2006 & 2014 in Indianapolis, Indiana; as well as serving as a mentor for many young juniors attending their first nationals. Kendra has also been involved at the national level attending several “Raising the Bar” events across the United States. She has earned her Bronze and Silver Award in 2012 and this year will be receiving her Gold Award in Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 2012 Kendra was honored as a top five finalist for Miss American Angus.
Kendra’s accomplishments have been outside the Angus association too. She was the Vice President of her FFA chapter in 2011-2012. She was a state finalist with her SAE Beef Production in 2012, after obtaining a Gold in Proficiency in Beef Production. Her American Degree award was acquired in 2013.
Kendra will be attending Davenport University next year to complete her degree in Business Management. She graduated Grand Rapids Community college Cum Laude. Kendra’s plans for the future included continuing to raise Angus cattle under her farm name of Precision Livestock, with her partner Ben Diekevers.
